The last few weeks have been hectic (I feel like I say that every week) that I haven't had much time to come around to post for "What I Wore Sunday". At the same token, I have to echo what a lot of other gals have said that for me personally the link-up started to creep into being a distraction.
However, before I get into any bit of self-loathing, I have to share some long await GOOD NEWS and give many thanks to many of you, my online community of prayer warriors. Our family recently hit the [what I call] the climax of our situation with the military from when I got medically declined to accompany my husband overseas in a currently non-war zone. The last few weeks for me consisted of last minute hoop jumping and red-tape dodging plus a canceled-and-then-not-canceled weekend trip to Seattle to visit my husband who was there for a little bit of training. Can I just say I didn't realize how hard it was going to be just leaving my babies for a weekend? Anywho, we finally received a bit of good news that he will be transferring back stateside in which our family can be reunited in a new duty station! Everything is still vague as to where and when, but at least before the summer. These crazy last 7+ months for our marriage & family will finally come to a close. We have really been stretched with everything that has happened. Can there be worse things? Definitely. Did I learn alot? Yes. Will I do it again? Probably not. At least I say that now. Ha. God bless our military.
Back to the fashion side of things: After some contemplation, I thought in order to help me personally to curve the Sunday distraction with WIWS that I would post weekly on what I wore the previous Sunday. This way I can give myself some more time to prepare myself for Sunday Mass, tend to the children, snap a photo of my outfit, and then not focus about the actual blogging & commenting part (the most time consuming part for me) until during the weekday when I find more spare time. So, if you see my post next week and it happens to be one of the first, I promise that it is not because I woke up for 7am Mass!

So, to stay true to What I Wore Sunday guidelines, I have to post a photo of at least one thing. In my last What I Wore Sunday post, I mentioned my mission to perfect the sock bun. I had been previously doing it with more of a dress sock. Turns out, it will stay put longer with more of an athletic sock since it grabs the hair better. It still can use some refining and practice, but I have a better hold of it (no pun intended). I feel like it's the great & chic default hair-do for busy moms if you're looking to skip out on the pony tail and baseball cap.

Sock buns are my favorite :) Prayers for your family!
ReplyDeleteYou should look into Hot Buns! It is one of those As Seen On TV products but you can pick one up at Wal-mart. You roll the hair up onto a piece of flexible velcro and snap it together when you get the hair wrapped around it. I got one for my daughter and it is much easier than using a sock. And I think it was only $9.
ReplyDeleteI need to try a sock bun! I'm glad to hear your husband will be back soon.
ReplyDeleteWonderful news! I don't know how you military wives do it; you're saints in my book. And kudos for trying to keep blogging in its place, which is below keeping Sunday holy and your family! It is certainly can be a temptation and distracting, to say the least.
ReplyDeleteSo glad that it is almost over!
ReplyDeleteI love sock buns! Sounds like you have a great approach to WIWS. I agree with Ellen, I can't imagine being siparated from my husband for more than a week.
ReplyDeleteYay for good news!! I love your sock bun. I have always wanted to have hair long enough to put it up. Unfortunately, every time I've grown it out I look like a poodle. Not the look I am going for.
ReplyDeleteJiza you were on my mind all week and when I saw the post on your trip to Seattle with you hubby, I hoped good news was around the corner. So glad your sweet family will be reunited!! And that unconventional self portrait shot is one of my favorites of yours. And yes, you can indeed rock the sock bun!
ReplyDeleteThat first photo is adorable, and I love the sock bun! PTL for your good news!
ReplyDeleteSo happy for you, Jiza! You should take another photo with your hubby actually wearing his shoes once you're reunited =) I'm a big sock bun fan, too--it wasn't until a few months ago, when I learned to fluff the ponytail like crazy with a teasing comb before rolling it, that I felt like mine looked appropriately bun-like. It looks like you have quite a talent for it already, though!
